More Eye Candy from the Pacific Northwest

More student work, this time from the Monoprint Collage class at Pacific Northwest Art School:
















I took a little different approach to this class than previously - focusing more on collage - and the student work blew me away!  Please dont re-post these images, as they are student work.

I will be offering Gelatin Print Collage at Pacific Northwest Art School next year, May 21 and 22.  We will be making our own gelatin plates as well as using the gelliarts plate.  Just prior to that Im offering "100 Drawings, Paintings, and Explorations", May 16 - 20.

Mr Googlie Eye

One of the boys I nanny (who is also one of Kades best friends) had his 6th birthday recently. He is the kind of kid who has everything, so I wanted to give him something unique and special. I decided on a silly monster plushie. Kade designed the whole thing- he chose the colors, the shape of the body, how many eyes, what the mouth should look like, everything! Here is the result:


The boy named him Mr. Googlie Eye. He loves him very much, takes him everywhere, even sleeps with him! It gives me such a warm fuzzy feeling to know that I was able to make something he loves!


There is a pocket on the back for notes or little treasures.


Im thinking about making some monsters for the shop, what do you think?

More Fish Eye

My column this week on Baseball Prospectus included a return of the Fish/Eye chart I built to illustrate the continuum of plate discipline. Ive added a new metric this time called Square which tracks the percentage of pitches in the strike zone swung at and made contact with. A high value here (relative to the average of over 87 percent) indicates that when the batter offers at a strike he usually makes contact. On the contrary, a lower value indicates hitters who, for reasons such as a long swing, are more apt to swing through strikes. In any case, I also relate this metrics to Wily Mo Pena and my discussion from a previous column.

Several readers have alerted me to the fact that the group charts I showed cut a few players off at the edges. New charts coming soon...
